The Hooley, Tuesday, April 4

Oh, relationships. They’re so complicated, aren’t they?

Just ask Urban Meyer, who collects quarterback prospects the way some people collect stamps.

The OSU head man is absolutely fascinated by five-stars and can never get enough of them, even though his current quarterback depth chart seems well-stocked with Joe Burrow, Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell behind three-time captain J.T. Barrett.

The OSU spring game on April 15 will give fans their first look at Haskins and Martell, but no matter well they play, Meyer never stops scouring the bushes for the next guy who might be the next big thing.

OSU had Akron Hoban quarterback Danny Clark in the fold for years until Martell, the nation's No. 1 QB prospect became enamored with Meyer and the Buckeyes. That forced OSU to perform the delicate dance of cooling enough on Clark that he came to conclusion on his own that he didn't really fit what Meyer's offense does.

Clark eventually found a new home at Kentucky and covered up the Ohio State tattoo he'd had since his freshman year.

But if you think having two freshmen quarterbacks like Haskins and Martell in the fold stops Meyer from searching for the Next Big Thing, forget it.

But, it appears that wandering eye can work both ways.

OSU has had a verbal commitment from five-star Georgia quarterback Emory Jones since July. Jones says he's 110% committed to becoming a Buckeye next January, but he recently took an official visit to Alabama and he's planning to visit Florida and Florida State, too.

So, Meyer this past week offered a scholarship to a 2019 prospect, Michael Johnson Jr. of Eugene, Oregon, on the same day Jones made his visit to Alabama.

So stand by for how this episode of The Bachelor shakes out and which highly-regarded quarterback is the next one to accept a rose from Urban Meyer.

If you're a golf fan, you remember what happened last year at The Masters. You can expect 2015 champion Jordan Spieth to be asked about that maybe 1,000 times in advance of Thursday's first round.

The question is, can Spieth put it out of his mind when he gets to No. 12 in the first round, let alone should he be leading entering the back nine on Sunday.

3. What former Browns No. 1 pick is the backup quarterback in Dallas?

5. In what Canadian province is Sidney Crosby's hometown of Halifax located?

Answers: 3, Cincinnati, Brandon Weeden, Progressive Field, Nova Scotia

It’s a big one for the Blue Jackets tonight in Pittsburgh, where the Penguins start one point in front of the CBJ for second in the Metropolitan Division.

A loss would give the Pens a three-point cushion with three games left on the Blue Jackets’ schedule. That would essentially guarantee the Penguins home ice in the teams’ first-round playoff series, which is almost a certainty at this point.

It doesn’t do any good to complain about how goofy the NHL Playoff seeding is. The most important thing now is to win tonight and hang onto second place with wins over Winnipeg at Nationwide on Thursday and in season-ending road games at Philly and Toronto Saturday and Sunday.
