Despite the fact that Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has missed every fall camp practice, because he is on paid administrative leave, the Associated Press today had his Buckeyes ranked No. 5 in their first poll of the season.
The Buckeyes have now appeared in every AP preseason poll since 1989.

There were five Big Ten teams ranked.
- No. 4 Wisconsin (The Badgers received one first-place vote.)
- No. 5 Ohio State
- No. 10 Penn State
- No. 11 Michigan State
- No. 14 Michigan
In addition, Ohio State's week 3 opponent, TCU, was ranked No. 16.
Alabama was the top ranked team for the 104th time, moving them to within one of Ohio State (105) when it comes the number of weeks a team has spent in the top spot.
